Frequently Asked Questions

What types of companies are eligible for the program?

We accept Seed to Late-Stage Japanese MedTech startups across medical devices, digital health, diagnostics, AI/ML healthcare solutions, and healthcare data platforms. Your company should have a minimum viable product, clear interest in US market expansion, and a team capable of English communication. Most importantly, you should be committed to achieving global scale and unicorn-level growth.

What does the program cost?

Nothing! The Tokyo-Silicon Valley MedTech Launchpad is supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's TOKYO SUTEAM initiative, significantly reducing costs for participants. There is no cost to participate, but selected companies that will participate in the Silicon Valley immersion week will be required to pay their own travel expenses.

Do you take equity?

No. We do not take equity from participating startups.

What happens if I'm not selected for Stage 2 (Silicon Valley visit)?

All 10 startups in each cohort receive the full 3-month Stage 1 intensive mentoring program, including expert guidance on FDA pathways, IP strategy, data validity & integrity, product-market fit, reimbursement planning, and investor preparation. While only the top 5 performers advance to the Silicon Valley immersion, all participants gain valuable US market knowledge, continue receiving ongoing support, and maintain access to our consortium's network and resources.

How much time commitment is required from our team?

Stage 1 requires participation in approximately 12 mentoring sessions over 3 months (2 sessions per module across 6 modules), plus individual preparation work and strategy development. Stage 2 requires physical presence in Silicon Valley for a 2 week intensive on-site program. During this time, participants will take part in investor meetings, partnership negotiations, and pitch event, with additional virtual follow-up once back in Tokyo. Additionally, during the 3-month period of Stage 2, the company should allocate time resources to business development and mentoring meetings. Founders should be prepared to prioritize program activities during both stages.

When does the program start, and how do I apply?

We run two cohorts during the program period from November 2025 to April 2027. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with decisions made within 2-3 weeks of submission. To apply, complete our online application form and submit your latest pitch deck. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview with our consortium team.

Does my company need to be based in Tokyo to participate?

This program is designed specifically for Tokyo-based companies as part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's TOKYO SUTEAM initiative. Companies currently headquartered outside Tokyo are welcome to apply if they're willing to relocate their headquarters to Tokyo by the program's conclusion in April 2027.
